Are you ready for Halloween? Join us at the Torrington Library on Thursday, October 18 at 6:00pm as we officially kick off the 13-day-countdown to Halloween with a brand-new presentation we’re calling “Crypts, Corpses, & Coffins” which will explore the history of burring the dead. From ancient civilizations massive monuments to spirits of ancestors, to the elaborate Victorian Era gothic cemeteries in Europe, to remains of forgotten people beneath the surface of Connecticut cities, we’ll be digging (not literally, of course) into this fascinating topic.
Next Monday, October 22, at 6:30pm we’ll be bringing our hugely-popular “Vampires, Witches, & Werewolves” presentation to the Terryville Library (238 Main Street Terryville, CT).
Throughout New England there are monsterous legends speaking of vampires, witches, and werewolves. You may have only thought these creatures were the work of Hollywood, but these stories existed long before movies ever got a hold of them. We’ll explore some of those which are local. Learn about Connecticut’s history of witches. Find out where there’s a headstone with the word “Vampire” on it. And explore the Native American legends of “shapeshifters,” which is the origin of many werewolf stories!
The program is free, but registration is requested so the library can have an approximate number of attendees. To register, please call (860) 582-3121.
We are also excited to announce that following both these programs there will be a special “Meet The Team” reception! After Torrington’s program everyone is invited to join us at the Twin Colony Diner, 417 East Elm Street, just up the road from the library! And following the Terryville program the McDonalds located at 321 Main St. in Terryville will be the location for the meeting!
